16th Dec, Tue (Townsville - Airlie Beach)

Out of the place by 7 after some thorough shower. Can't trust the bed really. Pancake for breakfast at the nearby nice expensive café to make up for my horrible night. Back to the streets of Flinders at 830 and most of the shops are just opening. No mood to shop but it's not because of the luggage that I'm tugging along but guess it's just one of those mood. But walked in and out of every shop to take a look coz I don't think I wanna go to the beach. No where to clean up and I don't want to board the bus sticky. Stroll to the terminal to park my luggage in one of those big locker before heading back to the Reef HQ. Gosh Reef HQ is a really good educational place to learn about underwater life. Workers there are all volunteers full of passion. Had a explanation tour on the corals and learn really a lot. Corals are not plants but animals. They start from polyps and they grow horizontally, branch out or on op of itself. Their colours are due to the microscopic algae growing in them. Without them, they are pretty much just white. I've also learnt that the corals nearer to the surface are more colourful since they receive more sunlight. As we get deeper in, red and yellow can't be reflected due to the salt water. That would explain why they look so dull from the surface. And there's male and female corals. About 3 to 5 nights after the full moon in late spring, the reef experiences the phenomenon of mass spawning of the corals whereby the corals release both eggs and sperms simultaneously into the water for mating to take place. Caught many pictures and videos of those beautiful creatures which I can't do so with my camera will snorkeling. Anyway don't think I'm capable of taking any nice shots in the sea when I'm more concern about my safety. Really enjoy this exhibition of the colourful underwater world and the lunch there was good too. Time to walk back to the terminal to head off for Airlie Beach. Whitsundays Islands... Hmmm wonder how beautiful the beaches will be. And will I be able to go sailing, my dear God?

Upon reaching Airlie Beach, I was praying very hard that the place will not be too far and hope it's nothing near what I had in Townsville. And thank God for answering my prayer. I just cross the street and there it is right in front of me. I've book a nice hotel room for myself! The really clean bath tub surely compensate for the last night. And I'm just in time to book a sailing adventure for myself tomorrow, 5 min to closing time. Well, when you have God with you, things just take place really smoothly. Dinner is my fav Mac Quarter Pounder, taste really different from what we have in Singapore. Most of the shop already close but just one shop left open, for me to buy more sunblock! God, you really take good care of me. Walked down to their swimming lagoon. Similar to the one in Cairns but I find this even more beautiful. Open to all without any fencing again beautiful. Pity can't catch the seaview as it's already pitch dark out there. Well, quick get back to the hotel to enjoy the gift from God!
